Dr. Jillian Kinzie Democratic Women's Caucus Member At-Large As someone whose political campaign benefitted directly from the leadership, energy and financial support of the DWC, my interest in serving on the Steering Committee as an at-large member is to give back to the organization. The expertise and endless energy among DWC members is essential to increase women's involvement in political life. I want to play a role in advancing women's participation in civic life and help empower women to run for elected office. My interest in supporting women's leadership is longstanding. As a women's studies major, I studied the topic, and as a commissioner on the Bloomington Commission on the Status of Women, I've collaborated with commissioners to produce reports on the status of women and partnered with different organizations to address gender inequities and celebrate women's accomplishments. I helped support the first exposition on women in leadership, the 2001 "Get on Board" event, and have continued to facilitate women's involvement in boards and commissions. I've also assisted with several campaigns of DWC endorsed candidates including Valerie Haughton and Julie Thomas. CLOSE |
